The Hotel Granvia Kyoto is offering a unique program, The Genius of Japanese Cuisine, a delightful and authentic culinary adventure for visitors intrigued by Japanese food and its preparation.
Learn and experience authentic Japanese cuisine! The master chef of our Ukihashi Japanese restaurant will show you how to create genuine Japanese dishes. Knowing Japanese cuisine is much more than simply understanding the techniques and skills. It is also understanding the philosophy behind it. This is what makes this package truly unique and particularly attractive to connoisseurs travelers. With the growing interest in international cuisines and the undeniable popularity of Japanese food in particular, more and more people are becoming interested in knowing how to prepare authentic Japanese cuisine. With this new package, participants will enjoy two half-day lessons under the tutelage of Master Chef, Hajime Murakami and will learn the secrets of preparing totally authentic Japanese cuisine. Chef Murakami believes that the growth in interest in Japanese cuisine is very positive development, but is concerned that people be shown authentic Japanese cuisine rather than food made suitable to the tastes of the country in which it is being served. It is in Kyoto, with its imperial history, that Japanese cuisine has been perfected over the centuries. The elegant Kyoto cuisine known as Kaiseki, served only in the finest Kyoto restaurants, as well as sushi, Tempura, vegetarian dishes, daily foods and even home party dishes will be introduced in these fascinating lessons. Participants will learn the secrets of preparing memorably authentic Japanese cuisine for every occasion. Participants will be able to choose and combine their preferences. Or, alternatively, they can leave it up to the hotel to suggest which styles of cuisine they will be shown.

Kaiseki course: Imperial cuisine at its finest, where presentation and taste are of utmost importance Sushi including all kinds, from individual to sushi rolls.
Sukiyaki and Tempura Vegetarian dishes as prepared in Buddhist temples Wonderful home party dishes that are not only easy to prepare but perfect for serving to guests. The art of presentation: learn how to create artistic tables that will be a treat for the eye to enhance the dining experience.
Healthy Diet: the healthy side of Japanese cuisine Japanese Breakfast: rice and miso soup, among the essentials of Japanese cuisine Japanese Seasonings and condiments including wasabi, shoyu, miso, yuzu and many others which are so important to Japanese cuisine.

The package, which requires a minimum stay of three nights, will be available Mondays through Thursdays, from January 3 through March 18, 2010 and April 18 through September 30, 2010, and subject to availability. A minimum of eight persons will be required for each course. The package charge for a group of eight persons, inclusive of lessons, room charges and tax and service is JPY114,000 per person. Following is a breakdown of charges: JPY64,000 per person for lesson fees, which includes a full course lunch or dinner (beverages are additional) each day before/after the lesson and covers all interpreter fees, materials and texts.

Picture Mr. Murakami began his career at the age of 15 and has honed his skills as a Master Chef over 45 years. Prior to joining the Hotel Granvia Kyoto, Chef Murakami worked as Ryori-cho(head chef) at such renowned restaurants as Ryori Ryokan Hogetsu in Kobe, Ryotei Mieya in Osaka, Japanese Restaurant Matsukaze of Kobe Bay Sheraton. He is as well-known for his culinary skills as he is for his affable and friendly nature. Lessons with Chef Murakami are thus as interesting as they are enjoyable.
