The Wonders of World Heritage Sites

Stay at the Hotel Granvia Kyoto and enjoy a 1-day private tour of Kyoto World Heritage Sites!

Golden

Come experience the magic of Kyoto in all the beautiful season and enjoy a specially created package to make your visit really memorable. This wonderful new package has been created to introduce World Heritage Sites in Kyoto, which is the most peaceful and serene time of the year in this ancient city.

Kyoto is a city of wonders, and among these wonders there are 17 that are recognized as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, including 13 Buddhist temples, 3 Shinto shrines and one castle. They are among the most popular destinations in the city and have attracted millions of visitors.

Our new program has been created for international travelers who are eager to visit these sites as well as to enjoy such uniquely Japanese cultural experiences as tea ceremony and sake tasting. We will provide a private sedan car with a knowledgeable English-speaking driver who will help guide you during the pleasant 8-hour day of touring the ancient capital’s most beloved sites.

The following is the standard course that we at the Hotel Granvia Kyoto have put together for you, but you are free to modify the course as you wish: 1. Tea Ceremony at Entoku-in Temple; 2. Golden Pavilion, 3. Silver Pavilion, 4. Sake tasting at Hino Memorial Sake Brewing Museum, 5. Nishiki Market, and 6. Gion district

maccha Entoku-in Temple
You’ll arrive one hour before the Temple opens to the public so that you can enjoy your own private Tea Ceremony( informal style ) in the traditional wooden tea room with it subdued natural light, its serene architecture and beautiful garden. Entoku-in is a sub-temple of the grand Kodai-ji temple and was built in the 16th century by Nene, the wife of the famed Shogun Hideyoshi Toyotomi. It is here that she spent her later years as a widow.

09:20

GoldenPavilion Kinkaku-ji Temple (Rokuon-ji Temple aka Golden Pavilion) *World Heritage Site
Probably the most famous Kyoto Temple, Kinkaku-ji is covered in gold leaf and shimmers above a beautiful mirror-like pond. It is particularly delightful in winter when a light blanket of snow graces its elegant roof. It was inspired by the flamboyant culture of Kitayama (Northern Mountains) which flourished in the mid 15th century.

10:50

SilverPavilion Ginkaku-ji Temple (Jisho-ji Temple aka Silver Pavilion) *World Heritage Site
In contrast to the Golden Pavilion, the Silver Pavilion has a completely different architectural style and landscape, being representative of the striking Higashiyama (Eastern Mountains) culture which was prevalent in the late 15th century. Ginkaku-ji is famous for its Zen inspired gardens known as "Sea of Silver Sand" and the "Moon Platform."

This well-preserved traditional Machiya Town house was once one of Kyoto’s most famous sake breweries. Here you’ll see how sake was made using the traditional implements, all in a setting of a beautiful old town house. After your tour, you’ll have the opportunity to taste various sakes made by Kinshi Masamune.

14:00

NishikiMarket4.jpg Nishiki Market
Known as Kyoto’s Kitchen, the Nishiki Market, located in the busy downtown area called Shijo, is a narrow, bustling 400-meter-long lane (only a few meters wide) with over 150 shops selling fresh and processed foods and ingredients including many Kyoto specialties. As you enjoy strolling through it, you’ll get an idea of what goes into Kyoto’s rich culinary culture.

14:50

GionShirakawa.jpg Stroll Gion Entertainment District
A stroll through this famous district, located just in front of Yasaka Shrine, will be like going back in time. You’ll find lovely old traditional buildings now housing restaurants and shops, dim lantern lights from the past, cobblestone roads and old canals. If you’re lucky you might catch a glimpse of a Geisha going from one house to another as this is one of the most exclusive Geisha districts in the city
