Kamigamo Jinja Shrine

Kamigamo Shrine:
Founded in 678, it is one of the city’s oldest shrines and is famous for any number of events and festivals. Chief among them is its role as the base for the famed Aoi Festival held every year in May, which is considered among the three most important festivals of the year in Kyoto. Traditional horse races are held here once a year, and on an appropriate day, visitors will see a grand white horse tethered in a wooden hut near the shrine gates. Despite its venerated place in history and its many attractions, it is not nearly as popular with visitors as one might expect. Thus the area is much more tranquil, exuding an atmosphere of peace and not readily found in other areas of the city.

  • Ceremonies can only be done on weekdays and at times with then Shrine has no planned rituals.
  • Package Price: JYP500,000 (excludes 5% consumption tax)
  • Package includes 3 nights at Junior Suite Room with Breakfast, Complete Traditional Wedding Attire for both Bride and Groom, Wedding ceremony at Kamigamo Shrine, Limousine services, and a wedding dinner.
  • If you arrive on a Saturday or any of the dates below, there will be an additional charge of JYP 10,500 per day: Saturday, Jan. 11, Apr. 12-17, Aug. 13-14, Oct. 11, Oct. 19 - Nov. 5, 2009.
  • Room type: Junior Suite for three nights
  • Full advanced payment is required within one week from the time reservations are made.
  • The plan is offered from December 7, 2008 to December 29, 2009, except for the following periods:
    Jan. 1-3; Mar. 20- Apr. 11; Apr. 18; May 2-5; July 16-19; Aug. 15-16; Sep. 19-22; Nov. 6-Dec. 5; and Dec. 30-31, 2009.


Additional Information

  • Family and friends are welcome to attend. Accommodations, transfers, and wedding dinner fees are additional. Please consult with the hotel planner.
  • Basic traditional wedding attire and modern hair arrangement are included. Should you wish to have additional items such as a traditional wig or other hair decorations, it can be arranged by the hotel.
  • Please note that photo and video-taking are not allowed during the ceremony unless it is done by a designated, contracted photographer. We can assist you in making these arrangements.
