Hotel Granvia Kyoto deploys the “Next Generation Technology” with IEEE 802.11n wireless network.
We have launched a high-performance IEEE 802.11n (draft 2.0) wireless networking with advanced security features throughout the large and medium-sized function & conference rooms, hotel lobby and restaurant area.
The wireless LAN system installed by the hotel is from Meru Networks, (HQ: Sunnyvale, Calif. USA), the industry leader of wireless infrastructure solutions. This new 802.11n (draft 2.0) (max 300Mbps) standard provides access at up to five times the speed of prevailing 802.11a/b/g (max 54Mbsp) products.
According to research by the contractor of this system installation, Kyowa Technologies, (HQ: Kita ward, Osaka, Japan), Hotel Granvia Kyoto is the first hotel in Japan to install this “Next Generation” 11n WLAN technology.
With this installation, a total of ten 11n access points were strategically positioned to provide maximum wireless access for up to 120 persons at each point. For instance, the hotel’s largest Genji Grand Ballroom with the floor area of 1,200 sqm/12,917sqft now has 4 of the access points, one in each of the 4 segments of the room, enabling a 480 person wireless capability at the same time when the room is fully expanded. Besides its advanced security features, Meru’s technology ensures a much more continuous, seamless user experience with no dropped connections when moving from one AP to another.
Among the hotel’s 13 function & conference rooms, this 11n WLAN was installed in the Genji Grand Ballroom, Kokin Jr. Ballroom (730sqm/7,858sqf), and Taketori (360sqm/3,875sqf), while the remaining smaller rooms (from 50sqm/538sqf to 150sqm/1,615sqf) have with the current 802.11 a/b/g AP.
The hotel offers this service complimentary to participants of a conference and at meetings taking place at the hotel, in addition to staying guests. The same applies to the High Speed Internet access in all the guest rooms (wired).
